How to play Bloodhound in Apex Legends

Table of Contents

Apex Legends boasts a diverse cast of characters, both in terms of backstory and playstyles. Bloodhound stands as one of the battle royale’s original eight and remains one of the most beloved characters in the game due to their standout skills.

The recon character has a set of abilities that can be one of the most useful in the game, but players should be careful about when they use their skills. These abilities have a high payoff but can also be detrimental to the team if used improperly.

Tracker—Passive

With Tracker, Bloodhound players will see small markers on their screens that provide limited information about nearby enemies.

These clues linger for only a short amount of time, but they reveal an opponent’s actions, such as when an enemy has jumped onto a crate or when they healed, and a rough estimate for when the action was made. Bloodhound users can follow the tracks to hunt down and locate nearby enemies.

As a recon character, Bloodhound also has the ability to scan survey beacons, giving their team knowledge of the ring location in the next round.

Eye of the Allfather—Q

Bloodhound’s Q has seen some extensive changes since the launch of Apex. Where the Eye of the Allfather scan ability once was a short-range ability that provided players with just a snapshot of enemy positions, its range, scope, and duration have been considerably buffed. The scan has a range of 75 meters and casts in a 125-degree cone. If the scan finds enemies, they’ll appear behind all cover to Bloodhound and their squad for three seconds. If the scan fails to find enemies, Bloodhound players will see a message at the top of their screen indicating no hostiles were found.

The ability has a 25-second cooldown and is a useful scouting tool when entering buildings or POIs if you’re unsure if enemies may be present. Be careful while using it, however. Characters can see the scan quite easily and will be alerted if they are scanned by an enemy Bloodhound. Scanning reveals enemy positions, yes, but it also tells those same enemies that a Bloodhound is close by.

Beast of the Hunt—ultimate

Beast of the Hunt significantly enhances Bloodhound’s movement speed and tactical sight. The ultimate drains the user’s screen of color, turning their surroundings black and white. All enemies within Bloodhound’s line of sight are then outlined in red, causing them to stand out against the background. Enemies obscured by smoke or gas can be seen clearly by Bloodhound while they’re using Beast of the Hunt.

Bloodhound’s ultimate lasts for 30 seconds, but knocking down enemies increases the duration of the ultimate anywhere from five to 15 seconds per knock down, depending on how much time is left in the ultimate. The ability also decreases the cooldown on the Eye of the Allfather scan ability to eight seconds. This makes Beast of the Hunt one of the strongest ultimate for fighting in Apex, letting Bloodhound reveal enemies to their squad throughout a fight.

This ultimate has a brief casting time of one second where Bloodhound is left vulnerable, and the ultimate immediately ends if Bloodhound is knocked down, so players need to be careful when casting mid-fight.

With their ability to track enemies through smoke, Bloodhound excels in games with an allied Caustic or Bangalore who can create clouds of poison gas or smoke to confuse enemies. Bloodhound also excels as a flanker due to their increased movement speed and tactical vision after casting Beast of the Hunt.
