MTG Strixhaven cards worth money

The Standard-legal Magic: The Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages officially launched on April 23, showcasing five colleges within the Multiverse and reprints of popular Instant and Sorcery MTG spells that have Japanese art variants via STX Mystical Archive.

Using enemy color pairs connected to the five colleges of Strixhaven University, the STX set created new meta opportunities across multiple Magic formats. Various booster fun versions from borderless to extended-art are worth money, along with a large number of Strixhaven Mystical Archive Japanese variants that appeared in Draft and Set booster packs. All Mystical Archive versions are legal to play in Magic formats where those spells were already legal.

Cards worth money are listed in descending order, with updates to prices taking place following the launch of a new MTG Standard-legal set and any major Magic tournaments.

Here are the top MTG Strixhaven cards and Mystical Archive variants worth money, according to MTGGoldfish and MTGStocks.

Demonic Tutor Japanese variant

Demonic Tutor is a popular Black Sorcery spell played in the Commander and Vintage formats. The STX Mystical Archive Japanese borderless foil version is valued at around $420. And there are several other variants worth money as well.

Time Warp Japanese variant

Time Warp sees gameplay within the Commander and Modern MTG formats. The STX Mystical Archive Japanese borderless version is valued at around $102. Other versions are worth much less with the foil-etched priced at $34 and non-foil borderless worth around $38.

Teferi’s Protection Japanese variant

Teferi’s Protection is often played in the Commander format and has an STX Mystical Archive Japanese borderless foil variant priced at around $67. The foil-etched version is $54 and the Japanese foil-etched is $50, while the foil Mystical Archive version is $64.

Counterspell Japanese variant

Counterspell is popular within the Modern format and a staple Instant speed Blue spell in Magic. The STX Mystical Archive Japanese variant is valued at around $50. Other versions in Japanese and English range in value from $10 to $30.

Tainted Pact Japanese variant

Played in the Commander format, the STX Mystical Archive Tainted Pact Japanese variant is valued at around $43. All other versions in Japanese and English are worth between $10 and $13.

Lightning Bolt Japanese variant

Lightning Bolt is one of the most popular Instant Red spells ever printed in Magic. The STX Mystical Archive Japanese version of the spell is valued at around $40. A foil-etched Japanese version is worth around $20 while the English version is only valued between $4 and $5.

Magma Opus

Played in the Standard and Commander formats, Magma Opus has a planeswalker stamp foil version worth around $55. Other versions of the STX card are valued between $10 and $20. The regular version of Magma Opus is worth $6.

Beledros Witherbloom

The Elder Dragon of Witherbloom College within Strixhaven University has its own Commander deck, making Beledros Witherbloom the most expensive card in STX at launch. A borderless foil version of the Elder dragon is worth around $30 and a planeswalker stamp foil version is priced at around $22. Other versions are worth between $15 and $20, with the regular version of Beledros Witherbloom priced at $13.

Professor Onyx

Lilianna returned to Standard via STX, using the mechanic Magecraft. The professor at Strixhaven University has a borderless foil version worth $25. She also has a planeswalker stamp foil and prerelease foil promo versions valued at around $20. The regular version of Professor Onyx is priced at $10.

Expressive Iteration

Expressive Iteration is played within the Standard, Modern, and Legacy formats. A promo pack foil version of the Sorcery spell is worth around $30. All other versions are valued at less than $10 with the regular version of Expressive Iteration priced at around $8.

Crackle with Power

Once valued at around $2 at the release of STX, Crackle with Power skyrocketed in price with the global launch of NEO thanks to the Hinata, Dawn-Crowned Commander deck. An extended-art foil version of the Sorcery spell is worth $20 and a planeswalker stamp foil version is valued between $20 and $30. The regular version of Crackle with Power is priced at $9.

Wandering Archaic

Wandering Archaic is a Rare Avatar that’s seeing gameplay in the Commander format. The Avatar’s foil extended art version is valued at around $20. The non-foil version was priced above $10 following the launch of STX but is now worth around $6.

Shadrix Silverquill

Shadrix Silverquill never took off in Standard but has found several homes within the Commander format. The Elder Dragon has a borderless foil version valued at around $17. All other versions of the elder dragon are priced below $10 with the regular STX version of the elder dragon worth $4.
